QDA Students Competed in a Math Tournament Held at Kent State University Tuscarawas County, Ohio

When parents and students begin to look at online programs as an alternative to brick and mortar institutions, many wonder about eligibility for extracurricular activities as well as academic competitions. Though it’s true that not every digital school offers students such opportunities, QDA has a number of options available for those wanting to get more involved in sports, music, and academics. Students throughout Wayne County, Ohio; Tuscarawas County, Ohio; Holmes County, Ohio; and the rest of the state are able to participate in a wide range of activities, including math competitions. In fact, some local mathletes from QDA recently placed at the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center Math Tournament held on May 13, 2014!

The East Central Ohio Educational Service Center Math Tournament gathers students in grades 5-8 in order to show off their skills in Addition/Subtraction, Multiplication/Division, Fractions/Decimals, Problem Solving, and Mental Computations. All schools that are served by the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center are encouraged to participate, and the district with the most points receives the John Evanosky Memorial Trophy to display for the rest of the school year. This is a tremendous opportunity for students who are gifted at math as it allows them to go up against the best of the best.

Few, if any, digital schools would be able to participate in such an academic competition, but QDA is no regular internet school. As an accredited institution, QDA’s online programs meet the criteria for joining band, sports teams, and National Honor Society, as well as competing in science fairs and math tournaments. Unlike other students enrolled in digital school, those who learn through QDA won’t miss out on the opportunity to join extracurricular activities that are traditionally offered by brick and mortar institutions. Regardless of whether they live in Wayne County, Holmes County, Tuscarawas County, or anywhere else in the state, students are able to showcase their talents while still learning from home.

Just a few short weeks ago, some of QDA’s students participated in the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center Math Tournament. How well these local mathletes did in this academic competition is a testament to the digital school and how effective their online programs truly are. Though some parents worry about whether their children are getting the proper education by working from home, QDA is constantly showing how much effort they put into helping their students learn.

As this digital school offers a number of online programs for students in grades K-12, parents can feel confident that their children will not fall behind. And since QDA also grants students the opportunity to participate in sports, band, and academic competitions, they don’t have to give up anything just to work from home either.
