You may have recently read our blog about a section Cleveland, Ohio’s 89th Street being renamed William Boyd Sr. Way. We talked about Mr. Boyd’s dedication to his family, his community, his business, and the people who trusted him with some of the most personal moments in their lives at E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home in Cleveland, Ohio.
In addition to covering the various ways in which Mr. Boyd has earned this incredible honor, we also promised updates, as the dedication ceremony was still in the planning stages. Well, some of those updates have arrived, and the Boyd family, as well as the staff members of E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home invite you to join them in celebrating this exciting event!
On Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 11:00am, you will find friends, family, and members of the community gathered together at E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home, located at the intersection of 89th Street and Cedar Avenue, to show their support of Mr. Boyd, and to share in the joy of this momentous occasion.
During the dedication ceremony, the City of Cleveland, represented by Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Councilwoman Mamie J. Mitchell – Ward 6, will unveil a brand new street sign dedicating the portion of 89th Street between Carnegie Avenue and Quincy Avenue to Mr. Boyd, as William Boyd Sr. Way!
In a year already filled with accolades, William F. Boyd Sr. is also being recognized at the 75th annual National Association of Funeral Directors and Morticians, Inc. (NFDMA) event in August. He is part of the 2012 class of distinguished honorees, all of whom have over half a century in the industry. The 100 Black Women of Funeral Service will be sponsoring an awards breakfast and VIP reception, as well as an evening reception and entertainment for the “Living Legends of Funeral Service.” Mr. Boyd will be in excellent company with other pioneers of the funeral service profession who have paved the way for future generations. Once again, Mr. Boyd is leading by example.
The Boyd family wishes to share their joy, and to offer their praise and thanks to God who has so blessed them.
