Huntington Learning Center Talks to Parents about Obtaining High School Help for Their Teens

Middle school graduation is a major event in an adolescent’s life. In addition to officially becoming a teenager, this is the point at which your child will begin to discover the differences between middle school and high school. It’s also the point at which your child will need to begin thinking about college and what type of job they’d like to pursue. The transition from middle school to high school can be a difficult one for many young teens, which is why it’s recommended that they take advantage of every educational resource they can, including one-on-one sessions at their local tutoring facility. As it turns out, Huntington Learning Center not only provides students with the high school help they need to succeed, but they also offer parents some tips on how to assist their children during this time. And luckily for both parents and children in the Northeast Ohio region, Huntington Learning Center has a number of locations scattered throughout the following areas:

• Broadview Heights, Ohio   • Shaker Heights, Ohio          • Willoughby, Ohio
• Brecksville, Ohio                 • Cleveland Heights, Ohio     • Stow, Ohio
• North Royalton, Ohio           • Mentor, Ohio                       • Kent, Ohio
• University Heights, Ohio     • Chardon, Ohio                     • Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio
• Independence, Ohio            • Parma Heights, Ohio           • Parma, Ohio
• Akron, Ohio                           • Tallmadge, Ohio                  • Seven Hills, Ohio
• Hudson, Ohio

After your child’s middle school graduation, they’ll need to learn how to become more independent. During this time, it’s highly recommended that young teens develop good organizational skills that they can carry with them to college. With multiple classes and a larger workload, it’s important that your child learns how to balance their studies and extracurricular activities. For that, Huntington Learning Center encourages parents to help their children with creating a schedule of assignments, exams, club meetings, and sports/band practice, as well as an organizational system for their backpack, locker, and study space. Parents should also teach their children that instructors and guidance counselors are great educational resources. If your child is struggling in class, they should learn to take responsibility for their academic success and obtain high school help when they need it.

Another big difference between middle school and high school is that the latter is the last precursor to college. As early as freshman year, students should begin to think about what college they want to attend and what kind of career they’d like to pursue. Once that decision had been made, encourage your child to tap into local educational resources. Along with discussing the necessary requirements with their guidance counselor, teens should consider looking at volunteer and internship opportunities that would look good on a college application. And that brings us to one of a student’s top priorities in high school—getting help at a local tutoring facility to raise GPA.

Though your child’s involvement in school is important, most colleges place the most emphasis on GPA. If your child is falling behind in a particular class or struggling with a subject overall, it’s vital that you get them the one-on-one assistance they need to boost their grades. Without it, not only will their chances of getting accepted to college decrease, but they’ll only fall further behind if they do get accepted as college courses are more difficult than high school. Thankfully, each of Huntington Learning Center’s tutoring facilities is staffed by experienced tutors who can provide the help your child needs.

After middle school graduation, your child will begin to experience a world that’s vastly different from the one they’re familiar with. So, if they do need high school help, it’s in their best interest to take advantage of all the educational resources that are available to them.
